About: Originally a tap dance from the 1930s called the Shim Sham Shimmy the Shim Sham was simplified to make it accessible to all. Almost 100 years on it’s still danced at lindy events all over the world. Watch here.

Jitterbug Stroll

Dean Collins Shim Sham: Part 1

About: PART 1. The Dean Collins Shim Sham is a famous stylised take on the original choreographed by Hollywood/LA dancer Dean Collins. Unlike the standard Lindy Hop Shim Sham, which is commonly performed at social dances, the Collins version was originally created as a three-man performance piece and is a more advanced routine. Tranky Doo: Two part series
Date: Saturday 12th June & 19th June 2027
About: One of the “big three” classic solo jazz routines along with the Shim Sham and the Big Apple – it’s a must know intermediates routine for swing dancers. Choreographed during the 1940s Swing Era by Lindy Hop legend Frankie Manning, this high-energy routine is famous for its appearance in the historic documentary The Spirit Moves and is a masterclass in rhythm, style, and jazz vocabulary. Originally choreographed and passed down by Mama Lu Parks and her legendary dancers during the post-Savoy era, this short but mighty routine is an absolute staple of modern vernacular solo jazz culture.
