We run three beginners’ courses every year in autumn (Oct/Nov), winter (Jan/Feb) and spring (May/June), taking you through the two main types of footwork used in the dance: 6-beat and 8-beat. You’ll also learn the basic positions of open and closed, key foundational moves including: a change of place, a collect, a promenade and flip-flop. You’ll even learn a fun pop jump!
Our beginners course is perfect for anyone wanting to learn the dance, no prior experience necessary. It’s also a great entry point for those who have danced Modern/Swing Jive and/or other partner dances previously as well as those who’ve learnt lindy hop previously but have had some time out and would like a refresher.
Lindy Hop is a sociable dance and we like to rotate partners where possible. If you are coming with a partner, however, and feel more comfortable staying with your partner while you learn you can do this too. Single dancers are welcome, you don’t need a partner to sign up to the course – courses are normally a 50:50 mix of single dancers and couples.
